TEACHING ARTIST ASSESSMENTS

Critical Acclaim

ELIZABETH L. REEVES

Education Coordinator & Performer

Jessica has an astonishing way of leaving an amazing impression in a room. Her presence alone speaks a quiet, yet strong comforting existence. I have witnessed how safe and comfortable children feel around her.
I have personally worked with her at The State Theatre of Georgia, also known as the Springer Opera House here in Columbus, Georgia. She has put in hard, countless, and dedicated hours teaching for the Springer Theatre Academy as Lead Teacher. “Teaching Life Skills through Stage Skills” is our mission. She has gone above and beyond this statement by exemplifying extraordinary professionalism in the classroom and on the stage. Jessica has a tremendous way of creating a safe learning environment for anyone who is passionate about learning.  I have personally witnessed her committing to educational projects that promote self-awareness, self-discovery and ensemble work all together. When asked to do a particular task, she goes above and beyond what is asked and expected. She is both a leader and teammate. I know this because I have been on her team. You will definitely want her on yours.

HEATHER WILLIS MCLENDON

Actor, Educator, & Stage manager

I have had the great pleasure of working with Jessica on a variety of different projects, both onstage and in the classroom. As a fellow actor, Jessica comes to rehearsals with enthusiasm, preparation, and hard workall of these are qualities which carry over into her teaching style.
Jessica spent several consecutive summers as a teaching artist at the Springer Theatre Academy, and what impressed me most was her ability to balance being likeable and personable with students with maintaining strong classroom management skills and control of the group. Her natural talent at bringing joy and a sense of play to her work in the classroom is what makes Jessica a great teaching artist
Jessica and I also worked together as a stage management team for the Springer’s production of ARaisin in the Sun. Jessica was able to rise to these challenges with grace, flexibility, and competence; even when things did not go as planned. Jessica has proven to me that she is willing to go above and beyond the call of duty in order to ensure that the quality of her work is not only up to the standards of others, but the very high standards she sets for herself.

Jessica was always so kind and gave the best redirects! She would help you find how you related to the character so you could make [a true connection] on your own. Some of my favorite monologues that I've performed were those that she worked on with me. She's definitely one of my favorite past teachers.

Jessica helped me focus on doing instead of being during my monologue and it really brought the text to life. I feel much more confident and plan on keeping this monologue in my back pocket.
